The Presbyterian College, Montreal
Our goal is to equip and nurture faithful and effective leaders in the church and the world.
Our affiliation with McGill University School of Religious Studies provides an enriching academic program. Our commitment to spiritual formation as a College, provides students with a strong Christian community and a place to grow in their own faith.
Montreal has been recognized as the number one city in the world for students! It is a vibrant, culturally diverse, multilingual and cosmopolitan city filled with beauty, music, museums, and attractive parks. It has all the attractions of a large Canadian city with all the charm and splendour of a European city.
We believe Christian community is key to theological education and formation. Because we are a small college, every student is known by name and has a valued place within our community. Our association with McGill University also gives students the opportunity to be involved in other Christian organizations on campus.
Through McGill University, we offer the Bachelor of Theology, the Master of Divinity, and the Master of Sacred Theology. Students can enrol in the Bachelor of Theology as a first degree. The M. Div. is a combined course of studies between Presbyterian College and McGill University. The STM is ideal for further academic studies.
Practicums & Internships
Students in the M. Div. may apply for a special area of summer studies in congregational renewal or church planting. All students are placed half time in a congregation in their final year of the M. Div. Students in the M. Div. also participate in a global trip in their final year.
6. Extracurricular Activities: events, clubs, and other opportunities to get involved on campus.
Our affiliation with McGill allows students the opportunity to participate in the many events hosted through McGill University. Each year, well-known authors and theologians are brought to the McGill campus. There are a number of Christian clubs on the McGill campus. Presbyterian College also invites students to participate in its own governance structure.
Presbyterian College, being a smaller college, does not offer an athletics program even though James Naismith, the founder of basketball, is one of our alumni! However, students pay fees to McGill, which allows them to take advantage of the recreational facilities at McGill. The students’ society does plan some recreational events each year.
We believe it is through Christian community that are lives are shaped and transformed. Therefore, we encourage all students to be involved in a local congregation of their choice. In the third year of the M. Div. program all students participate in an international ten-day theological exposure trip to engage with global church leaders.
The B. Th. is a foundational degree for ordained ministry or other types of work such as international relief, teaching, social work, counselling, non-profit administration, or government work such as international affairs and public policy. The M. Div. is designed for those considering congregational ministry. The STM may be used for further academic studies.
