Jimmy Kimmel says he has been trying to get Toronto mayor Rob Ford on his show since last fall, when Ford gained infamy by admitting to smoking crack cocaine while in office. Last night, Kimmel’s dream was realized, as Ford appeared on the ABC late night talk show.
During the interview, Kimmel didn’t waste any time in addressing some of the controversies of the mayor, as he read a number of angry tweets from Torontonians. Ford laughed in response saying, “Is that all I got? I guess they don’t talk about all the money I’ve saved.” Kimmel also showed Ford a number of embarrassing video clips, wiped the brow of the sweating mayor, and even suggested Ford seek professional help: “If you’re drinking enough that you can try crack in your 40s and you don’t remember it, maybe that’s something that you might want to think about, like talking to somebody.” Ford shrugged off Kimmel’s advice, saying, “I wasn’t elected to be perfect, Jimmy.”
Ford’s followers will most likely continue to stand by their favourite underdog, even if he continues to be the punchline.
